Explanation

A fully ordained Buddhist monk in the Theravada tradition. A man who has taken a vow to follow the Buddha’s teaching and to live within a community of fellow monks.

Context

The idea of impermanence (anicca) is one of the three ‘marks of existence’ in Buddhism. In other words, according to Buddhists, it is a mistake to think that anything has permanent existence. For Buddhists, if people wish to make spiritual progress, they have to accept that nothing lasts – we cannot ignore the fact that everything changes.
