Bat Mitzvah

bat mits-vaa

Explanation

When a Jewish girl is around 12 or 13 years old, she can become a ‘Daughter of the Commandment’ in some Jewish denominations, which means that she is considered an adult in religious ceremonies and responsible for her own religious duties. This may be marked by a ceremony at the synagogue and a family celebration.

Context

“In becoming a Bat Mitzvah, I am promising to keep God’s Commandments.”
