bhavachakra

bah-vah-chack-ra

bhavacakra; samsara chakra
Explanation

This is the name given to a picture of the ‘Wheel of Life’ or ‘Wheel of Becoming’ – a symbol of samsara – the continuous cycle of life, death and re-birth.

Context

In the middle of the bhavachakra picture you will usually find a rooster, a snake and a pig these are the symbols for greed, hatred and ignorance. These three ‘poisons’ are character flaws that Buddhists believe we should try to overcome.
