Kiddush

kid-dush (‘dush’ rhymes with ‘push’)

Explanation

The prayer of blessing said at the start of the Shabbat(or Sabbath) meal, and meals during festivals.

Context

On Friday night, and on festivals, the Kiddush is recited over a full cup of wine or grape juice. The Shabbat dinner can then begin. It is also said on Saturdays, after the Shabbat morning service and before lunch.
