This is the traditional Christian belief, especially in the Catholic Church, that when bread and wine is blessed by a priest during a service, it becomes the body and blood of Christ.
What happens to the bread and wine when it is blessed is often believed to be a ‘mystery’. Some Christians believe it is transubstantiated into Christ’s body and blood, others prefer think more symbolically of the ‘real presence of Christ’ at the sharing of the bread and wine.
